BROWNSVILLE – For a group of ladies in Brownsville, making Christmas tamales is a tradition going on close to seven decades.

They gather once a year to make tamales and since it requires a lot of work, it means a lot of friends and family come to help.

“Mother started it in 1949, Rick. She would get together with all her friends at her house and they would do tamales,” said Chickie Samano, the tamalada who organizes the gathering.

The group includes those with experience, to the young additions who watch their mothers very closely.
