MCALLEN – The city of McAllen is moving forward to relocate the respite center.

The move will be temporary and officials will continue to look for a permanent home.

Some nearby residents are upset with the city’s decision; they’re now wondering if the city would be responsible since they asked for and issued the permit.

"If the city is going to issue itself a conditional use permit then, heaven forbid, who's going to enforce that conditional use permit?... Who's going to be held accountable?" explained McAllen resident Dave Ash at the city’s public meeting.

Another voice at the meeting was resident Timothy Wilkins; he believes the entire Rio Grande Valley should help with the respite center, not just McAllen.
