BROWNSVILLE – Officials have finally decided on what to do with an abandoned railroad corridor that runs through Brownsville.

A dispute on whether the city needs another road or trail has been ongoing for more than 10 years.

County and city officials agreed it’s best to use convert it into a trail – about seven miles are for trail only, the other two miles are a combination of road and trail.

"We know from our studies, that if a person lives close to a trail they will be more active,” explains Brownsville City Commissioner Rose Gowen.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with local residents who hope the trail will be for the best.
