A substitute teacher at Mission High School is in federal custody after he was accused of coercing a teen girl in the state of Illinois into sending him sexually explicit photos of herself.

Edgar Hernandez was arrested Monday and questioned at the school.

According to the criminal complaint against him, Hernandez was identified as the suspect who asked a 13-year-old girl in Springfield, IL, for nude images of herself through Snapchat. Hernandez then threatened to spread the images if the teen didn’t send more.

Hernandez told investigators he solicited nude images and videos from more than 30 minors in the last two years, the complaint stated.

In a statement from the Mission Consolidated School District, the district said Hernandez is no longer an employee with the district and students with the district are not believed to be involved in the allegations.

Read the statement in full below:

Edgar Hernandez is no longer employed as a substitute teacher in Mission CISD.  The safety of students is always a priority for the district and officials will continue to work in cooperation with any law enforcement agencies regarding the investigation.   It is our current understanding that there are no allegations of wrongful conduct involving Mission CISD students.  We have been informed, however, that Federal Law enforcement continues to investigate the matter.   Because this is an ongoing investigation, and to avoid doing any harm to the investigation, the district will refer questions about the investigation to the Federal authorities who are investigating the matter.

Hernandez has a detention hearing set for Friday.
