WESLACO – A Honduran mother and her two sick children could be facing deportation soon.

The mother and her two children crossed into the U.S. illegally back in December.

The kids – ages one and six, soon fell ill and required hospitalization.

The federal government has given the mother two options, return to Honduras or be deported to Guatemala.

The order is part of a new initiative that requires asylum seekers to request asylum in the first country they enter before getting to the U.S.

Both of her children are currently hospitalized in the Rio Grande Valley.

The government says they intend to deport the family to Guatemala Tuesday if they get clearance from a medical professional.

A lawsuit filed by the family alleges both children became ill after staying in the Donna immigrant facilities and the government is not taking their welfare into consideration.

They are asking a federal judge to stop the deportation.
