Christmas Exhibits on Display at Brownsville Museum

BROWNSVILLE – Two main types of exhibits are normally found during Christmas time: nativity scenes and holiday villages.

The Brownsville Historical Museum displays both exhibits.

KRGV’s Rick Diaz took a visit to the museum for today’s Con Mi Gente.

The executive director of the museum, Gene Fernandez, explains Alton Gloor’s wife, June, collected the pieces for over 20 years for the holiday village collection.

"Look at the enormity of it. There are over 500 individual pieces,” he says.

Fernandez explains retired Catholic Bishop Raymundo Pena’s nativity collection has nearly 1,000 sets.

"Look at the detail in these pieces. This is fine porcelain work at its greatest there. It represents the faith as they have it as they cherish the Christian faith in their own tradition,” says
