BROWNSVILLE – Constables in Cameron County are stepping up patrols, looking for drivers not following school bus road rules.

Somos Noticias rode along with Constable David Martinez of Cameron County Precinct 1. They spent a few hours patrolling as students were dropped off.

Martinez reminds all drivers if you see those red lights flashing on a school bus, by law you have to stop.

“It is very important for the motorist to pay special attention while they are driving and there is a school bus in front of them. Especially in the morning and the afternoon. Just now I cited in a motorist for failing to stop when the bus was unloading,” says Martinez.

If you are caught in violation, fines range from five hundred up to $1,500.
