Cameron and Hidalgo counties report triple digits in positive coronavirus cases

EDINBURG – The number of positive coronavirus cases hit triple digits Monday in Hidalgo County. It posted an additional 14 known cases on the county website, bringing the total to 113.

According to a release, more people are being hospitalized as the virus continues to spread in Hidalgo County. On Monday, 14 patients were in the hospital being treated for symptoms of the disease. Four of them were in the intensive care unit.

New testing numbers show 984 people have been tested for the virus, 781 were negative and 90 are pending. Hidalgo County did not release the number of patients who have recovered.

In Cameron County, officials also announced 14 new confirmed cases, with a new total of 101 cases. Five of the new patients were reportedly from a Harlingen nursing home, Windsor Atrium, involving three residents and two employees.

Of the 101 cases, 20 patients have recovered in Cameron County. On Monday, the county reported its first virus-related death of an 81-year-old resident from Veranda Nursing Home in Harlingen.
