On Saturday 1,000 Brownsville Independent School District educators were able to secure a shot.
"I'm so grateful and I'm really happy," Liz Olvera, a B.I.S.D. dance teacher and clinic volunteer said. "It did not hurt at all. I feel good right now."
That sentiment was shared by all 1,000 B.I.S.D. employees who received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"As a teacher, it's really hard to see the students behind the computer," Olvera said. "I want to see them back in the classroom, physically."
B.I.S.D. Superintendent Rene Gutierrez said the clinic is a big step in making in-person learning a reality once again.
"All of our employees in our district are essential," Gutierrez said. "It doesn't matter if you're a classroom teacher, a bus driver, a cafeteria worker, a custodian. Everybody's entitled to have access to this vaccine."
